2013 Cadillac ATS Luxury Car

The 2013 Cadillac ATS,  a broad lineup of engines delivers strong power to and capitalizes on the car’s lightweight structure to complement its performance with efficiency. The optional engines include an all-new 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 270 horsepower (201 kW) and Cadillac’s award-winning 3.6L V-6, estimated at 320 horsepower (238 kW). Cadillac has been steadily improving its products for a decade, shedding its old man stigma in favor of a new brand identity, favoring luxury with a performance twist. After all this time, on the eve of the Detroit Auto Show, the GM luxury division is finally ready to put its money where its mouth is, launching the ATS as a direct rival to the segment leading BMW 3 Series.

The 2013 Cadillac ATS three powertrains will be available with a base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder making 200 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque. A mid-level turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder will deliver 270 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque from just 2400 rpm, while a top-level direct-injection 3.6L V6 makes 318 hp and 267 lb-ft. Cadillac says the ATS will get over 30 mpg highway – aided in part by grille shutters that close at highways speeds.

In terms of design, the ATS is clearly a Cadillac, with an overall shape similar to that of the CTS, while taking design cues from the new XTS flagship sedan. Most evident is a wider two-piece grille that’s still imposing but toned-down on the chrome.

At 135hp/L, the new 2.0T is one of the most power-dense engines in the industry, topping engines from European competitors. ATS will offer both manual and automatic transmission options, along with rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations.

The ATS is offered as a well-equipped standard model and in Luxury, Performance and Premium Collections. A Bose® Cabin Surround audio system is offered on the standard model, as well as Luxury and Performance Collections. It is standard with the Premium Collection. A navigation system is also available with Luxury and Performance Collections and standard with the Premium Collection.

Large Car Sales In America December 2014 And 2014 Year End

2014 Chevrolet Impala
U.S. sales of large cars from volume brands decreased 8% in 2014, a loss of nearly 51,000 units compared with 2013.

The Chevrolet Impala, still a popular nameplate, suffered a 10.5% year-over-year decrease to 140,280 units. Combined, the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 – 147,481 sales between the pair - were down 5.5%.  The Ford Taurus took a 22% dive. Hyundai Azera volume tumbled 36%. The Nissan Maxima, approaching replacement, slid 6.5%. Toyota Avalon sales slid 5% following 2013 sales which increased to a six-year high.

With the American market, even the global market, turning toward more practical and similarly fuel-efficient utility vehicles, this will simply not be a growth segment in the near (or likely even distant) future.

Small And Midsize Luxury Car Sales In America September 2014 YTD

2014 Volvo S60
BMW 5-Series sales in the United States fell below 2000 units in September 2014, the first such dive since August 2012. BMW USA averaged 4720 5-Series sales per month in the first eight months of 2014.

Dont expect the low volume to continue for long. September also saw declines from many potential 5-Series rivals, including the top-selling Mercedes-Benz E-Class. U.S. sales of the Acura RLX, Audi A6, Cadillac CTS, Infiniti Q70, and Jaguar XF also decreased compared with September 2013.

With much lower base prices, sales of BMWs 3-Series lineup (4-Series inclusive, as per BMWs release) rose 51% to 12,814 units in September, precisely half of all BMW sales last month.

X models, from the X1 to the X6, accounted for one-third of all BMW sales in September. No premium brand product, not a BMW or a Mercedes-Benz or a Lexus or an Audi, comes close to matching the 3-Series/4-Series juggernaut in terms of outright U.S. volume.

The 3-Series next-best-selling direct rival, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, stands a better chance than ever with a gorgeous exterior and S-Class-aping interior in W205 form, arriving in driveways across America now. The C-Class is now assembled in Alabama. Which is not in Germany.

* vehicle also displayed in another GCBC segment breakdown
^ BMW USA, not GCBC, has decided to combine sales figures for the 3-Series and 4-Series, the 1-Series and 2-Series. Acura has done the same with the new RLX and old RL.
^ A4 includes Allroad, without which A4 sales were down 26% to 2480 in September; down 4% to 25,829 YTD.
^ Jointly, Q50 and G sedan sales were down 13% to 3623 in September; up 23% to 38,072 YTD. Total G, Q60, Q50 sales were down 18% to 4077 in September; up 12% to 43,830 YTD.
GCBC isnt here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains why youll see the Acura ILX here but also with mainstream cars like the Buick Verano, too, and the Audi A5 is also displayed with coupes and convertibles... because readers have wanted it both ways. Hyundai USA, not GoodCarBadCar, chooses to combine sales figures for the Genesis sedan and Genesis Coupe, forcing us to include the Genesis with volume-brand cars on pricing grounds before we even get to the "brand status" issue. The K900, Equus, and XTS are here not because of their size but because of their price points, their lack of direct comparability with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.

Large Luxury Car Sales In America July 2014 YTD

2004 Jaguar XJ
Mercedes-Benzs S-Class outsold all its direct rivals in the United States in July 2014. In fact, the S-Class outsold many indirect rivals, as well, and one key (less costly) Mercedes-Benz, too.

For every 3.5 S-Class sedans sold in America in July, BMW sold but one 7-Series. The S-Class outsold the Audi A8 by a similar margin, the Lexus LS by a 3-to-1 count.

Year-to-date, Mercedes-Benz USA has sold 13,366 GL SUVs; not quite that many S-Classes. In July, however, as in June, the S-Class outsold the GL.

This is of some consequence, as the rise of high-end SUVs has caused sales of these large luxury flagship sedans to gradually decline. But the S-Class/GL-Class equation isnt the only one that matters.

Consider the Jaguar XJ, which is likely to sell around 5000 copies in 2014, or half as many as XJs as were sold in 2004, when the car looked like the one in the above image. Meanwhile, after five years in the four digits, Land Rover sold 12,221 Range Rovers in 2013 and could top 13,000 units in 2014. Mercedes-Benz could sell 23,000 S-Classes this year; they sold nearly 31,000 in 2006, when fewer than 19,000 GLs were sold.

What about those other big luxury cars, the ones which lack the high prices and brand stature of the S-Class and 7-Series? Hyundai sold 305 copies of the Equus in July (2082 YTD), Kia sold 132 K900s (and 948 since March), and Cadillac reported 1939 XTS sales (13,429 YTD).
